Furniture and other houshold equipment

Good quality furniture is rather expensive, but still cheaper than sending everything from Switzerland over.

The best opportunities to get cheap furniture, dinnerware, etc. are the newsgroup, garage sales (very popular here: people sell their stuff in their garage, its a national hobby), thrift stores (Salvation Army, Goodwill). However, some things might be cheaper new at Walmart, Target, Home Depot, Costco, Kmart, etc. Bicycles or appliances such as TVs, VCRs and radios can best be found used on the Internet. Shipping furniture and other stuff by container from Switzerland is normally not worth it. Pots and pans get normally sold in sets. You can get them cheap at Targets or Walmart, for higher quality Bloomingdales, Macy's or Crate & Barrel. Single pots are mostly high end and very expensive. Also Bed Bath & Beyond has a lot of things for starters. Their bathroom department is quite nice for towels and stuff, but they also have kitchen utensils, silverware, bed sheets and lots more.
