Resources for Page Managers

Currently this list contains only a few do's and don't, let me know what else you need.

Upload/Download: because server sides includes are used extensively, you cannot just use Save as in the browser to get a copy of the page. Instead use the download button on the page management site.
Each page must must have an .shtml extension and start with the following two lines:
(those replace the <head> section). Using those make sure that the page fits into the rest of the site and can be displayed inside frames, without frames and even for text browsers.

Replace TITLE with the title for your page.
If you want to add special tags to the <head> you can set the special variable "head", as in

Images:
Please upload photos as jpeg-files, and small logos as gifs, as it saves space on the server and makes downloads faster.
Links to images:
should always be absolute as in social page, use <IMG src=/photo/photo.jpg>. Caches and downloads are faster that way if people switch from the non-frames to the frames version and back.
Size attributes:
Please add the width and height whenever you use the <IMG> tag. It speeds downloads up because pages can be rendered before the browser got the first few bytes of each image.
Sitemap:
For each page you create you should add an entry to the sitemap.shtml file in your directory. This entry wil automatically show up in the global sitemap. The entry should be of the form

New Stuff:
If you changed something and would like to have it show up in the news sections of the main page, edit the news.shtml file in your directory and add an entry of the from

Please do not forget to remove the entry after a month or two.
Links to other pages:
Always use relative links to other pages on swiss-list.com. For example, to link to the social page, use <a href=../social/index.shtml>. If you use absolute links the frames version of the site will not work correctly.
Links to pages on other sites must always include a target=_top as in <a href=www.nzz.ch target=_top>. Otherwise those pages will show up inside the swiss-list.com frame.
Tables:
Depending on the way the surfer looks at your page your page may be included in a table. Browsers have no problems with such pages, if you always close all cells and rows. That is, never forget the

Scripts:
