I am German and was funded for 2 years as postdoc through SNF (I also
was a PhD student and postdoc at UniZH/ETHZ before). As long as my
money came from Switzerland, I had the 2 year thing on my visum. I
have now US funding and my new visum (extended in Dec) says 2 year
rule does not apply. I didn't do anything. My wife (Swiss) did not
have her SNF fellowship approved when she applied for her visum the
first time and she was never subject to two year rule.
I am not sure what we learn from that. Seems to me the whole 2 year
thing is a bureaucratic relict that nobody is really interested in
enforcing (appears to be easy to get out) and nobody is interested in
doing away with either.
