New Procedures For Visa Processing
Dear Visa Applicant,
The Visa Unit will be transitioning to an application-by-appointment system and
has discontinued accepting applications by mail. The changes are detailed
below:
1. Effective close of business Friday, March 7, 2003, the Visa Unit
discontinued accepting visa applications by mail.
2. March 10 - 14, 2003, the Visa Unit will complete processing mail-in
visa applications received by March 7, 2003 either by issuing the visas and
returning the passports or returning the passports and scheduling an
interview. The Visa Unit will limit walk-in (unscheduled) visa applications
to 25 persons. This will be the last week the Visa Unit will accept
unscheduled nonofficial visa applications. Requests from callers in
Switzerland for visa application appointments can be made to 0900-55-51-54
on Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
3. March 17 - 21, 2003, the Visa Unit will complete interviews with
all remaining mail-in applicants.
4. March 24, 2003, the Visa Unit begins processing the first
applications by appointment.
The Visa Unit will reserve Fridays for appointments with Swiss citizens only,
although Swiss citizens can also request appointments on other working days.
The changes described above do not involve a change in the Visa Waiver Program.
Swiss and other travelers who qualify for the Visa Waiver Program can still
travel to the U.S. without a visa. Current application procedures for officials
and diplomats traveling on official business remain unchanged, although there
is a [1]new visa application form. Please begin using the new form.
