Hello everybody,
People at Lawrence Berkeley Lab should look the second part
of the message:
For UC Berkeley scholars:
The UC Berkeley Services for International Students and Scholar
Office is organising the usual tax information workshops for
international scholars. These workshops are intended for UC
Berkeley scholars that are not yet filing as resident for tax
purpose (if you are not sure about your status and at UC Berkeley,
go to the workshop, they will tell you). Let me remind you that
almost anybody having been in the US during 1998 should file
and return at least one form to the Internal Revenue Service before
April 15th, whether owing tax or not.
The workshops are held at the International House, 2299 Piedmont
Avenue, Berkeley, from 4:10 to 6:00 p.m. The dates are:
Monday March 8,
Tuesday March 16,
Thursday March 25,
Monday April 5, and
Monday April 12.
For Lawrence Berkeley Lab scholars:
The IRSO office in Human Resources is sponsoring three two-hour
tax workshops this month for non-resident scholars (similar to UC
Berkeley. The three workshops will be held in Perseverance Hall,
Building 54, Room 130 and 130B during the next two weeks. The
dates are the following:
1) Monday, 3/8/99, 11:00 am-1:00 pm in bldg 54, room 130,
for persons whose last names begin with the letter A - K;
2) Tuesday, 3/16/99, 8:30 am - 10:30 am in bldg 54, room 130
for persons whose last names begin with the letter R - Z; and
3) Thursday, 3/18/99 from 3:00 pm-5:00 pm in bldg 54, room 130
for persons whose last names begin with the letters L through Q.
Please feel free to attend any one of the three workshops to meet your
schedule needs. The alphabetic separation is offered simply in attempt
to even out attendance at each workshop so that questions may be
addressed. There will be thirty minutes for Questions & Answers during
the last half hour scheduled. Forms will be available for all attendees.
The workshops will be presented by Ted Goode, from the Services for
International Students & Scholars office on the UC Berkeley campus,
for laboratory employees who are nonimmigrants to the U.S. who
received U.S. income during the calendar year 1998. Wes Hunt, the
payroll group leader at Berkeley Lab, and Sui Jen of the payroll and
IRSO office will be available to address questions and provide
guidance as well. If you have any questions, please feel free to email
case managers in the IRSO office, Sharon Hom at schom_at_lbl.gov or
Becky Cho at bcho_at_lbl.gov.
