There is at least one: me. I came to the bay area as a grad student 5 years
ago. Then AHV was "cheap". Later I became a post-doc, now I am hired as a
research associate*** and am still paying AHV in addition to Social
Security. Is this silly? I thought as long as I am not sure about my long
term future (stay in US vs. back to CH) I would keep paying AHV. I'd rather
give up Social Security, but it is my understanding that I don't have that
choice.
I have browsed through earlier postings about this matter, but never paid
too close attention... maybe this has been discussed already.
