Dear Rosemarie,

Also on the West Coast, the film program "Borderless Sounds" will play
Seattle in September:

MOVIE LINE 206.267.5380 www.nwfilmforum.org/
Tickets: $8 general / $5 members/ $6 children & seniors

Sept. 22
Accordion Tribe, directed by Stefan Schwietert, Switzerland 2004
Five highly individual musicians from different countries get together to
form the ³Accordion Tribe² and to achieve the seemingly impossible: return
their long disregarded instrument to the worldwide recognition it once
enjoyed as a powerhouse of emotions.

Sept. 23
Das Alphorn, directed by Stefan Schwietert, Switzerland 2003
The alphorn is often misused as a symbol in advertising for Alpine tourism.
Yet it is a remarkable instrument, its potential far from exhausted. Stefan
Schwietert's film takes us on a musical journey, starting with the wild
³Büchelsätzli² of the Swiss interior, through to traditional melodies,
culminating in a modern sound collage on 16 alphorns.

Sept. 24
A Tickle in the Heart, directed by Stefan Schwietert, Switzerland 1996
The Epstein Brothers were the kings of Klezmer, the traditional music of
Eastern European Jewry. For more than 60 years, they played their joyous,
sentimental songs at Jewish Immigrant celebrations in Brooklyn. Today, they
live and continue to play their memory-laden melodies in America¹s
retirement paradise, Florida.

Sept. 25
Ombres, directed by Edna Politi, Switzerland 1997
The film concentrates on the composer and conductor Heinz Hollinger and the
violinist Thomas Zehetmair at the time of the creation of the ³Concerto pour
violon², which is inspired for the most part by the tragic and very touching
³¦uvre² of the painter and violinist Louis Soutter, one of the many outcasts
to have served Hollinger as a model.

Sept. 26
Irene Schweizer, directed by Gitta Gsell, Switzerland 2005
Music is and always has been Irene Schweizer¹s whole life. In her film,
Gsell gets some rare one-to-one time with the internationally renowned Swiss
pianist Irene Schweizer, whose music has roots in Jazz and improvisational
music. The film gives a fascinating insight into the life of a great artist,
where friendship and relationships always take second place to the music.

Sept. 27
Namibia Crossings, directed by Peter Liechti, Switzerland 2004
The Hambana Sound Company is a troupe made up of 12 musicians and singers,
gathered from all over Namibia, Zimbabwe, Angola, Switzerland and Russia.
Twelve very different outlooks journey through a country that is in the
process of reinventing itself from scratch: Namibia, once former
German-Southwest Africa.

Sept. 28
Step across the border, directed by Nicolas Humbert and Werner Penzel,
Switzerland/Germany 1989
An American critic wrote: "Fred Frith¹s music will make your jaw drop, your
feet dance and your neighbours move.³ Other participants are: a telephone, a
saxophone, lassos and rain showers, cities occupied by orchestras, seagulls
and engines. It¹s a music film.

Let me know if there's anything more you need,

All the best,

Ralph
