Dear Startup List,
The details for our next event are now complete. see
http://www.bioe2e.org/2002/Aug7.html
Title: Intellectual Property for the Entrepreneur
Date: August 7, 2002 at 7:00pm
Location: Wilson Sonsini, 950 Page Mill Rd., Palo Alto, CA
Cost: $20, at the door.
Intellectual property (IP) rights are paramount to biotechnology. A
biotech company's initial value typically resides in its technology and
not in its product that can take years to develop. Thus, protecting a
company's intellectual property can be critical to its survival and
success.
At this BioE2E event, experienced intellectual property attorneys from
law firms and companies will provide us with an overview of IP in
biotechnology, as well as specific advice on evaluation of a company's
IP portfolio. The discussion will also include common pitfalls and
misunderstandings regarding procuring and enforcing patents.
Specific topics will include:
o What is intellectual property, brief review of patent,
trademark, copyright, and trade secrets.
o How is IP viewed in the eyes of the investors, especially
in a down turn?
o How to evaluate the significance of IP to investors at
different stages of the company?
o What homework you need to do about IP before talking to
investors and corporate partners?
o How to spend your IP budget effectively?
o What should you expect from your IP counsel?
Featured Panelist Speakers

Senior Partner at Morrison & Foerster, LLP
