Dear Anne and fellow Swiss-Listers,

I am sorry for the inconvenience caused to some of you by the message in
French from Mr. Joutet in Geneva. I don't know Mr. Joutet, nor did he
know what the Swiss-List was about (he should have read the info on our
website!). He is not a subscriber to the Swiss-List, but just someone from
Switzerland who thought that the Swiss-List might help him develop some
contacts in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Regarding the messages usually sent to the list by its subscribers, it
seems to work pretty fine, everybody abiding by the tacit rule that the
messages should be in English. This is completely logical, given where we
all live and that some Swiss-Listers' mother tongue is English. But this
also reflects the unfortunate growing trend among many Swiss nationals,
which consists of communicating in English across the linguistic borders.
Side-effect of globalisation too...!

One final comment! It seems that the Swiss-List is better known in the
French part of Switzerland than elsewhere, which explains why we quite
often receive messages in French from people from the media or canton
governments or whatever. It would be really great, if Swiss-Listers who
have the opportunity to develop or maintain contacts with the German or
Italian part of Switzerland could advertise the Swiss-List and just simply
hint to its very existence!

Herzliche Gruesse,
Tanti saluti,
A la prochaine,

                                                Marc-Olivier

P.S. Thanks for all those who could attend the pic-nic, last Saturday!
