Nadia,
In order to get rid of the 2 year rule you have to apply for a waiver. This
is a process taking about 4 to 8 months. For Swiss people this is normally
not a problem. Yet as far as I know, you have to do it while you are still
in the US with a J-1. Also I think that once you get the waiver you cannot
extend anymore your J-1. So first extend your J-1 to the most possible and
needed length, then apply for the waiver. More information about the waiver

The person responsible for visas at your university should also be able to
