Thanks Laurent for the article on the foreign income
exclusion - being a Swiss-American dual citizen, I'm
one of the people who could have been potentially hurt
by the proposed change.
My question for today: I'm a long way away from
retirement, but - does anybody know where I can find
out how how distributions from US retirement accounts
will be taxed if I live in Switzerland when I receive
them?
Specifically:
- I have a Roth IRA. "Normal" distributions will not
be subject to US income tax. Should I be worried that
Switzerland would collect taxes on these
distributions?
- I have a traditional IRA. I will presumably have to
pay US taxes on distributions no matter where I live.
Does the Siwiss-US tax treaty protect me from
double-taxation if I live in Switzerland?
Does anybody have suggestions for good sources of
information on such issues?
I am aware, of course, that any anwers I find now may
change again until actually retire...
