You did not mention which field you are in. But one option worth looking into
is joining a professional association in the USA. Many of them provide
insurance packages including health insurance including family members.
Membership fees are typically in the range of $100 a year. These programs are
quite flexible and may offer discounted rates for members. You can join and
leave more or less at any time. I am currently insured with the American
Chemical Society as I am between jobs. I can recommend their insurance program.
You did not mention your field, so I do not know, whether this applies to you
or not.
