USPS has a special rate for books.
The Post in CH did too, at last in 1999.

I lost 3 or 4 boxes when I shipped my books
from CH to the US in 1999, but the rest
made it safely. In CH, they even give you
a bag to put the boxes in (vert militaire,
2 or 3 boxes per bag).
