One more info (to complete what Bela, Laurent, and Maria already said): if you
decide to return your green card, you need to file Form 8854 afterwards:

Only once you have filed this form, will you not be liable to file a 1040 form
every year. [This is a relatively new requirement (2004), people who returned
their green card before that did not have to file this form.] This form will
also tell you if you need to file US taxes for the next 10 years or not (as
mentioned in previous mail). Unless you used to earn a lot of money, it is
unlikely that you will.
